RCK’s 2023: A year in review

As 2024 begins, we’re looking back on an exciting 12 months of achievement, growth, and extraordinary highlights at RCK.

As 2024 begins, we’re looking back on an exciting 12 months of achievement, growth, and extraordinary highlights at RCK.

In January 2023, RCK launched a video series interviewing women in business across a wide range of industries, including construction, tech, fashion, law, and the charity sector. The series offered valuable insights into the daily challenges that women face in the business world and offers inspiration for women to forge their own path and pursue their career goals and aspirations.

From welcoming 62 new starters through our doors, including Lord Philip Hammond joining us as Senior Advisor, product launches, a brand-new video series, exciting industry events, prestigious award shortlisting, and high-profile media features including The Times, we’re excited to be at the fore-front of the ever-evolving Financial services industry.

In March 2023, RCK were shortlisted for Best Independent Tax Consultancy Firm at the prestigious Tolley’s Taxation Awards 2023. It was an honour to later attend the awards ceremony in May, and to be recognised as a finalist alongside so many leading names within the industry.

During June, Former Chancellor of the Exchequer Lord Philip Hammond joined RCK as a Senior Advisor. Lord Hammond will advise on strategy and the macro-economic environment in light of the dynamic nature of the industry.

Later in June, we also announced the launch of our new service, Business Rates. A tax charged on most non-domestic properties such as shops, offices, warehouses, and factories to help fund council-run public services, the launch of this service is headed up by Head of Business Rates Bradley Westlake. With over 10 years of experience in Business Rates, Bradley has worked for both Local Authorities and one of the largest global commercial real estate firms, and has gained extensive knowledge of various markets throughout the UK, including specialising in London, Bristol and Manchester.

In July, we hosted our very own Women in Business event and afternoon tea at The Savoy Hotel. On Thursday 13th July, we were joined by businesswomen from around the UK to share stories of success, encouragement and change for women in all industries. The event raised funds and awareness for Smart Works – a UK Charity which helps women get back into work after overcoming financial and personal hardship.

In September, we were invited to the Women in Construction awards at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms, which was hosted by Design & Build UK. It was an honour to be part of such an important event which supports and celebrates women who have pioneered their own businesses, and those who are striving for leadership positions within the construction industry. All donations raised were in support of The Maggie Oliver Foundation.

In November, RCK and our partner Oak North bank co-hosted an event at One Moorgate in London named ‘An Evening with Lord Hammond, Predictions for the Autumn Statement.’ During which, our Senior Advisor and former Chancellor Lord Hammond gave his predictions in advance of the Autumn statement as someone who had previously delivered it first-hand.

To close the year, in December 2023, our Senior Advisor Lord Philip Hammond did an interview with The Times discussing his role at RCK and Lord Hammond’s shared motive to improve the R&D tax landscape.
